MAN WHO HAD STOMACH REMOVED IS KEEPING FIT

A Laleham man who had 80% of his stomach removed in a bid to beat cancer is staying healthy by running four times a week. Retired banker Stephen Bishop, 65, had the operation in July last year as well as having part of his colon removed due to cancer. He now exercises four times a week, and even took part in a 10km run around Staines in May where he beat his personal best time at 58.28 minutes. Read More...

Budding young designers from across Staines are being invited to come up with a logo that will be used in the town’s leading health and fitness club.   Organised by The Thames Club on Wheatsheaf Lane, the new logo will be the new brand image for the Junior Gym which provides a cross section of classes for younger members. PAUL STEPS OUT FOR CHARITY

A Staines gym is helping a man who recently lost his wife to cancer get in shape for a five day hike around the Isle of Wight to raise funds for the hospice who cared for her.  Paul Smith, 48, from Staines, is walking the 67-mile coastal path around the island starting at Cowes on 8 June, along with son Aaron, 22, and six friends and family members. Read more...

TRACY TAKES PART IN MS TRIAL

A mother-of-two from Staines is taking part in a clinical trial into the effects of exercise on multiple sclerosis (MS) patients.   Tracy Haden, aged 44, is one of 10 people with the disease who are taking part in the study at the Thames Club, Wheatsheaf Lane, Staines, over a 12- week period.  Read more....

HEALTH CLUB REFURBISHMENT GETS FINAL GO-AHEAD

The refurbishment of Staines’ leading health and fitness club has been given the final go-ahead by Staines Borough Council. Costing £1.8 million the extensive work is taking place at The Thames Club on Wheatsheaf Lane and will make it the most advanced health club and spa in the region creating 20 new full and part-time jobs.
