We thought it might be useful to members to have a section on the thames for any questions you may have. These can be regarding any aspect of the club. Our team of experts are on hand ready to respond! To kick off with we have detailed a couple of questions that we have received recently:
Q: I work out on average 3 or 4 times a week in the gym doing a mixture of CV and weights. Up until about 2 months ago I felt that I was improving, but just recently I’ve seem to plateau. Can you advice on why this has happened and what I should do about it – does this mean even more visits to the gym??
A: This is not uncommon. When you initially have a training programme, it’s a new challenge for the body to deal with and whilst you exercise there are stresses placed upon it. In order to cope with these stresses, the body adapts and this is how changes occur (e.g. increased muscular definition; increased muscle size or increased stamina - dependant upon the programme). These changes don’t happen overnight, your body can take anywhere between 4-8 weeks in order to fully adapt to a training programme. It’s at this point that you will need to change or modify your exercise routine, in order to keep seeing changes and improvements’. If you constantly continue with the same training regime you will only maintain a certain level of fitness...never improve! Therefore, fortunately this does not mean you need to increase your frequency of visits to the gym. All you need to do is book in with one of our gym team, and get a review of your programme (these are at no extra cost!).
Q: I am due to have an operation just before Christmas and won’ be able to exercise for 3 months. What can I do with my membership?
A: We offer all members the chance to “freeze” their membership for a minimum period of 2 months up to a maximum of 6 months during their contract period. This service allows members who cannot use the club due to work commitments, illness/injury to suspend their membership until they are able to use the club again. The other alternative is that members can transfer their membership to a friend or colleague who can take over the membership for them. Speak to Donna and her team in Membership Admin.
Q: My parents are coming up to their 50th wedding anniversary and we were told that you have some function rooms? As members do we get a discount?
A: We have 4 private function rooms, catering from 12 people for a private dinner, up to 200 people for a party! Members can chose whether they want to just organise room hire and bring in their own catering or ask Magdy (our new Food & Beverage Manager) for menu’s that suit all budgets.
