This national accolade marks a major milestone in the club’s evolution since its acquisition 18 months ago by a trio of experienced entrepreneurs — Rob Marsh, Nick English, and Jon Connell.

Since taking ownership, the partners have led a comprehensive renovation and reinvestment programme designed to elevate every aspect of the member experience. Key upgrades have included:

  • A complete transformation of the communal areas and club interiors

  • Refurbished swimming pool, sauna, and new ice bath facilities

  • Major enhancements to the high-intensity training and performance zones

  • Continuous improvements to service, equipment, and member engagement

The UKActive judges praised The Thames Club for its outstanding commitment to quality, innovation, and community wellbeing — setting a benchmark for independent health clubs nationwide.

In a joint statement, the owners said:

“We are absolutely honoured and delighted to receive the UKActive Award for National Independent Club of the Year. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our incredible team, the loyalty of our members, and the spirit of continual improvement that drives everything we do. The journey doesn’t stop here — we’re committed to making The Thames Club an ever-better place for our community to train, relax, and thrive.”

As The Thames Club looks ahead, further investment is planned to expand its wellness offerings, continue facility upgrades, and strengthen its position as a destination where fitness, wellbeing, and community come together by the River Thames.
